Based on 825 reviewsDavid Vegera is widely praised for its authentic Greek cuisine and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Reviewers consistently highlight the freshness and generous portions of the small plates, with particular appreciation for traditional dishes like grilled sardines, spicy feta dips, and gyros. The restaurant’s cozy and inviting environment, combined with friendly staff, enhances the dining experience, making it ideal for sharing a variety of flavorful dishes with others. While a few note that some items may be slightly oily, this does not detract from the overall positive impression. Reasonable pricing and a strong sense of traditional hospitality further contribute to the brand’s favorable reputation in the Piskopiano area.
Absolutely wonderful, always wanted to try here over the years and finally enjoyed lunch. Perfect Greek salad, spicy feta dip and grilled sardines with complimentary bread, more than enough for 2 to share. Delicious food. Traditional and atmospheric.
Everything was amazing! The food was fresh, with great portions, we took various types of food and shared them. The spicy peppers on the grill were excellent. The Raki as well. Everyone very friendly and welcoming.
We ordered the chicken gyros, which was really delicious - though some people may find it a bit on the oily side. The overall atmosphere was great, and the staff was warm and welcoming. I definitely recommend this place!
This place is perfect to enjoy authentic Greek food, which is rare in Hersonissos. Went there three times and every single dish was delicious. It is more fun to go with many people and share the variety of plates. Atmosphere is cozy, staff very friendly. What more can you wish for… and prices are absolutely fair.
David Vegera Restaurant — a name that now lives rent-free in my culinary memory. We started with a spicy dip of grilled spicy peppers and feta, creamy, fiery, and just aggressive enough to earn your respect. Fava, soft and luxurious, practically drinking in the olive oil it was bathed in. Then came the meatballs, delicate and juicy, comfort food for the soul, especially when slathered in that tomato sauce and dragged through the remnants of the spicy cheese. The dolmades and stuffed zucchini flowers were a revelation — the kind of dish that makes you fall in love with the word “stuffed” all over again. Earthy, bright, tender. A celebration of everything that makes Greek food more than just grilled meat and olives. Speaking of which — the grilled pork belly was perfection. Crisp on the outside, melting within, with seasoning that whispered instead of screamed. Paired with salty chips and a carafe of red house wine, it all came together like a table of old friends who know each other’s secrets. And then — dessert. Mytheperoki — sweet cream cheese pies, drizzled with honey and dusted with cinnamon. Warm, soft, sweet, and deeply satisfying. Finished with the obligatory (and unavoidably bracing) rakki, because that’s how Crete says thank you and goodnight. We stumbled back to the hotel full, slightly drunk, sun-kissed, and happier than we had any right to be. Crete doesn’t just feed your stomach — it humbles your legs, seduces your taste buds, and makes you sweat for your stories.
Absolutely fantastic! This is THE place to eat in the area. The food is fabulous regardless of what you take. My personal favs are greek salad and rabbit in tomato sauce. The atmosphere is like you’re visiting their family. David looks after each table personally and does everything to make your time well spent. I will def come back when/if in the area.
This is my absolute favorite taverna in Crete, and I always look forward to going back. The staff is very friendly, service is fast, and the food comes quickly. I usually go there for my standard selection: cuttlefish, octopus, grilled shrimps, and marinated anchovies. Everything is always fresh, delicious, and of the highest quality. This place has never once disappointed me. No matter what you order, the portions are generous, the food is tasty, and it’s made with love. They also always play my favorite music, especially Nikos Oikonomopoulos, which makes the atmosphere even more special. Without a doubt, my number one place in Crete, I highly recommend everyone to visit!
